Wives and husbands have the right to succeed each other’s property, which is a common provision in the inheritance law of every country. The elevation of a spouse’s succession status marks the development of modern succession law and embodies an acknowledgement of the spouse’s labor and a respect to the right of succession of a surviving spouse. The special identity relationship of a surviving spouse, the compliance of the rights and obligations provided by inheritance law and the community’s care for the surviving spouse underlie the right to succession of spouses.
